Kally's Real-Life Happy Ending (Blog Hop Giveaway)

Happy endings romance giveaway hop

#HEGIVEAWAY

Tell your happy ending story!

The Happy Endings Giveaway Hop was organized by Reading Romances!

What a neat idea for a blog hop! Thanks for doing this one! Be sure to go to the Happy Endings rafflecopter form when available at Reading-Romances.com. Lots of prizes there, PLUS more at the 100 blogs participating in the hop, including mine!

Continue to read here, too, for my happy ending story AND a chance to win a paperback in my Rescue Me series (Military Doms--what's not to love!)

My husband and I met in a rather unconventional way. In 1981, he placed an ad in the "Lifemates and Situations" personals column in The Mother Earth News (TMEN! An omen!), and I answered it (along with about 100 other women). I always tell him he was looking for a lifemate and I was looking for a situation. (Hated my job and wanted to escape. Hmm. This seems to be a pattern in my life. But I digress. LOL)

This was pre-internet for most civilians (heck, there weren't even personal computers in homes yet). So we wrote to each other for six months. About halfway through, we talked on the phone, but long-distance calls were really expensive in those days, so mostly we wrote letters. Very LONG letters. Some of mine were 20 pages front and back on stationary. His were fairly long, as well.

It was the perfect way for us to get to know each other. We lived more than 700 miles apart and never would have met otherwise. Plus we were both shy (yes, I was shy back then) and I had never been able to open up to a man before the way I could in these letters.

After writing for six months, we decided to meet. Okay, you know those "too dumb to live" heroines in some Romance novels (and thrillers)? Well, that would be me. I flew up to meet him alone. I don't think anyone knew where I was going or with whom, although a sister and some coworkers knew I was corresponding with him. He picked me up at the airport in a small central New York airport, loaded me and my luggage in his Ford 150 pick-up, and off we went to his extremely secluded 70-acre farm. Yeah. Really, I did. As you can see, since you're reading this, I wasn't sliced and diced into tiny pieces. But when I told Top Griz, my Marine subject expert for my Rescue Me series, about this and he said, "You were such an idiot! Nine times out of ten you wouldn't have come back."

God and His angels were looking out for me. We both believe we were destined to be together in this lifetime. I'm sure there are still lots of things we need to work on, but as those of you who know my past history of incest and child sexual abuse and who have read Nobody's Perfect may already know that he is my Damian (without the bullwhip <g>). He is the most patient man I've ever met. I felt that I tested him in so many ways and we were together 15 years before I was sure he wasn't going to leave me when he saw "the real me." The clincher was when he gave up his farm in New York to move our family to Kentucky because I was homesick and suffering a bout of depression. For him to make that sacrifice, I could FINALLY believe he wanted to be with me forever.

In June, we'll celebrate 30 years of wedded bliss. Okay, it's not always bliss. That's one of the reasons I write Romances that are realistic. Happily Ever Afters take maintenance. My characters don't resolve all their issues in a single book. I usually put them in recurring roles for at least three books just to get to Happily Ever After. And then they will STILL have to work on issues, because getting engaged or married doesn't mean you won't have any more problems to deal with. It just means you won't have to deal with them alone any longer.

Kally's Rescue Me Series & Giveaway

One lucky commenter will receive a free copy of one of the paperbacks in the Rescue Me series (Masters at Arms & Nobody's Angel, Nobody's Hero, or Nobody's Perfect). Please comment below with either your own happy ending (does NOT have to be a spouse--can be a career, successful project, something that restored your faith or hope, or whatever made YOU happy! Winner will be chosen at random after the end of the contest.

There are currently four e-books in the Rescue Me series (published in three paperbacks, the fourth coming out later this month. The first e-book is always free, Masters at Arms, the introduction to the first three heroes in the series, as well as two of their ladies. I envision write two books a year for the rest of my life because there are still so many wounded characters needing their happy ending and to find healing through love. I love it when my characters rescue each other and often my heroines can also rescue themselves.

My books must be read in order for the reason stated above—the stories are told in a serial fashion and a romance isn't contained in a single book, but told over the course of several. The reading order is as follows:

I'm now working on the continuation of the story of Marc and Angelina in book 5 which is titled Somebody's Angel. I no longer try to predict release dates, but am 100 percent certain it will be published this year. I even hope to publish another book this year, but don't want to jinx myself or make a promise I can't keep.

My series is available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple iTunes, Kobo, All Romance eBooks, Sony, and Smashwords. For buy links to these booksellers, go to my Ahh, Kallypso…the stories you tell blog at http://kallypsomasters.blogspot.com/p/books-by-kallypso-masters.html.

  1. Thanks for sharing your happy ending Kally, it is lovely. My happy ending is also my husband...I flew half way around the world from Canada to New Zealand on my own for a working holiday. Fourteen days after I arrived I met my husband...Now at this point I had only planned on staying in NZ for 6 months. It has now been 14 years and we have just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and have two beautiful daughters 8 and 5. Not only did I marry him 10 years ago in New Zealand but we renewed our vows in Canada 5 years ago. Who new a working holiday would turn into a long term romance.

  2. I met my husband when we started high school. Nope, we didn't date through school but dated other folks until the end of our senior year. We were just really good friends. Most people couldn't figure out how we were even good friends as I was a totaly geek (started college my senior year of high school as I had run out of things to take in school) and he was not exactly a stellar student due to having to hold down a full time job. Anyway, we dated, I got pregnant, we got married. I was 17 and he was 19. Shortly after that I had a college professor tell me that we would be divorced before too long according to studies. Why? We married young. We had a child in the first year (who happened to be a preemie). We were of two different religions. And, his job (US Army) caused long seperations. Now, many years later (36), we're still together. It wasn't a smooth path. In fact, I'd say it was rocky a lot. Still working on that happily ever after but that's the key, we're still working on it.

  3. I was a single mum with a six month old baby living home with my folks. My mum told me to go back to work as I was driving her nuts being at home all day everyday. I was a secretary, hubby was the IT support. Met him on my first day at work ... thirteen months later we were married. Next weekend is our fifth wedding anniversary.

After years of an abusive partner, my hubby is my angel. He saves me every day.

Your story is beautiful Kally, thanks for sharing.

  4. May Happy ending is my husband as well. We met the spring I was in 8th grade and he a JR in High school. It started as friends since I was dating his best friend. But as most young puppy loves go, I broke up with the friends and a whole group of us stayed friends. Sept of 88 my mom went away for a week and I go to stay home alone for school. Being 15 and a freshman in High School, I decided to throw a small party at which my husband (friend at the time)attended. During the night someone dared him to kiss me. He being so incent asked my permission first (how sweet). I thinking he was the cutest thing I ever saw so I agreeed. We were insepertable after that. He knew more about my home life than any other person I knew. He gave me the courage to get out of a bad thing and move on to heal. One year into us dating, he went off to the Marines. 4 years we did nothing but talk on the phone or write letters, at 1 point he went off to the war in Dessert Storm. I truely thought we would not ever make it. We were both young, I was still in high school, I had my whole teen years to go and he was not here with me. My rock was gome! Finally fter 4 years he came home. But we lived an hour away (I moved away) now for next 2 years we only saw each other once a month. Neither of us had a car. He was going to collage, I was working my tail off. Finally after years of struggling, we got our first place together in Feb of 97. In 6 months time we were married and had a kid on the way. Now 15 years later we are still as in love as we were the day we said I do. We have 4 beautiful kids. He still is my rock, my best friend, my true love. I say all the time everything happens for a reason. He past brought him to this country to meet me, and my past gave me the reason to accept him.

  5. I was a freshman in high school at the time and my best friend Amy said Stacy bailed on her. She was supposed to meet her boyfriend’s cousin that night. So I stepped in for the blind date. It was seriously love at first sight. When I met him that night I was so scared. He was so amazingly handsome!! After the guys got to my friends house (after getting lost, Joe was never good at directions) we split up and Joe and I went to his car. He asked me if I wanted something, but I couldn’t understand what he was saying because I was too busy starring at him. Later I found out he asked if I wanted some gum, at the time I thought he asked if I wanted drugs. I was such an idiot!! We spent the next couple of hours talking about everything and the next six days falling in love. Apparently, Joe wasn’t supposed to fall in love, just get some ‘play’ according to his cousin. On the following Thursday night he called and asked me to meet him and the corner store across the street from my house. When I got there he pushed a letter in my hand and went and sat in his car. I read the letter (I still have it today) and he was too shy to ask me out in person. He was 17 years old and I was his first girlfriend!! Unbelievable. Needless to say, we spent all of our time with each other. He lived an hour away and would come and see me everyday. My friends kept telling me it won’t last and I should spend time with my friends. I couldn’t! I was truly in love. We were each other’s ‘firsts’. In my junior year, he took my parents and I out to dinner and asked for my Dad’s blessing to marry me. My Dad said yes and my mom blurted out NO......in the middle of a restaurant! Can you say awkward! He got down on his knee and proposed anyway. We dated all through my high school years and moved in with each other right after I graduated high school.

We will be celebrating 20 years of marriage this year and I couldn’t be more in love with him now. He is my best friend! He still makes me laugh, he still is sexy, kind, considerate, an amazing daddy to our two kids (16 y/o and 12 y/o) and he’s still sexy. Did I mention sexy? He makes me laugh everyday. We have such an unusual marriage. We pick on each other, we laugh at each other, and we love spending time with each other after 23 years of being together. I talk ALL the time about the Rescue me series to him. It has refreshed our passion. I couldn't pick one of the guys who Joe is most like. I swear he has so many qualities of all of them. One day he is my Adam, the next Damian. I think this is why I am so in love with this series.

I would like to say this is my happy ending but it’s to be continued......

  6. Ahhh, Kallypso. My happy ending is also my hubby.

  7. I met my husband when he moved in across the street from me; I was 10 and he was 8. We were friends for years until, at 18 and 16, something changed. Through ups and downs we have been together for 25 years, married for 18. Wow that seems like forever when you say it out loud. I'm still trying to get him into the D/s relationship I crave, sigh, we're getting there. ;) Loved your tale of your love story, I remember the days of writing letters, talking on the phone for hours, now I can barely get him to text me back. lol Hopefully we'll make it another 18, that is if we don't kill each other first. (Just kidding)

  8. Kally that is a beautiful love story with a happy ending. Mine is also my husband. We met when I was 23 and he was 45 in a bar and we had a one night stand which resulted in our son. We went our separate ways. Me being stubborn raised Brandon on my own. He got married and I got married and 3 years later our paths crossed again in a restaurant I was serving him coffee every morning for 1 year. My marriage split his marriage split 2 years later. Another year went by and I was dating a biker in a club and who do I run into buy my Williams. Well he was in a relationship that was not so sweet and mine was the same. We each split from who we were with and starting talking as friends he finally met his son and we have been together ever since. It has now been 13 years. We had rough times because of the age difference but I believe that GOD put us together 13 years ago and said this is now where you two belong, together forever.

  9. I met my husband on yahoo personals. I had recently moved from Maine to New Hampshire to be closer to my family. I was to the point in my life where i did not think i would get married and have children. I was happy with my life but looking to meet new people. Our first meeting i went to his house and we took his dog for a walk. He never kissed me til our 7th or 8th date, definitely not what i was used to. Anyway we have been married 8 1/2 years and we have two sweet little girls 5 and 8. My husband is a stay at home Dad, he takes awesome care of all of us.

  10. Fate hasn't been as kind to me in the romance dept. That's one demon I still haven't conquered. But I have conquered others. January 28th marks 22 years clean and sober. That was a huge demon to put to rest. In my first two years of sobriety I got pregnant twice. I think they were given to me to make me take the steps I needed to continue growing and go to college (for the first time at 26) and that led to a wonderful job at IBM. But I was still given the bumps in the road (what I call tests to see how I would handle them - if I could stay sober or if I would revert to old behaviors) My youngest was a challenge from the day he was born. It was many years later before we found out he had a form of autism and some other issues. And if all of that was challenging enough one day he collapsed and we found out he had Diabetes Type 1. My life has been my kids since I've had them and I will never regret that. Maybe its not in the cards for me to ever know what a healthy long term relationship with a man is like which is probably why I fell into reading about romance - in all forms. Your books and many other authors fill that void in me and I am ok with that.

  11. I'm so glad you have a happy ending. I suffer from PTSD, fibromyalgia and panic disorder. About 10 years ago I went through a very difficult time and was homeless for 4 years. I've battled my way back and now have my own apartment again and am able to volunteer my time to give back to my community.

  12. I love your story! My own is I met my future husband and a friend's company Christmas party and sat next to him, I met him again a week later when I joined a local Movie Club ( I am a HUGE introvert so joining a club alone and knowing no one in it is extreme for me) and he did not remember me AT ALL!! I was so quiet and shy at dinner, I made no impression at all. It is now 15 years later, we are married with two exasperating yet great kids and still members of the same movie club!

  13. I do not have romantic happy ending but I have another happy ending in a way..my abusive marriage gave me a daughter I would move heaven and earth for ..sometimes it seems I have. I have been a single parent now since she was three months old...she will be 32 next month...on her first semester of college she came home for Christmas...January 3 2000 a tornado came thru our hometown and leveled our home. We lost everything...and I mean everthing...but I got her back to college and now she is a clinical pharmacist and that is my happy ongoing ending!!!!

  15. Kally, its Trina. I am so glad that I read your story as it brought tears to my eyes. You have been an inspiration to me and as many times as I tell you thank you it will never be enough! My novel started out about someone else, but it turned personal and only then was I able to really release the feelings that were stored up inside for so long. I never left my safe place. I was just floating out every once in a while, that is until I found my muse and the passion and reason why I had to tell my story. I fell in love 18 years ago and we both went our separate ways for our work and it broke my heart. Well 3 months ago FB brought us back in touch and we both never forgot the love we had back then and now over the past few months we are learning what we missed over all those years. Its like we never were apart as the conversations last for hours and the love surfaced again. Through him I escaped my safe place and found the love to write those passionate scenes as he became my muse. I have wrote my book Bladens Fire - But only until we meet again will I have my HEA which will be soon! Like they say, It's all in the book! Love you and love your story!

  21. I love your story, Kally! What's made me happy over the past few years is getting to meet my favorite authors at book signing at RT and RWA. I never thought I would meet any of the authors whose books I loved to read and actually getting to chat with them has been a thrill for me especially since I'm one of those shy readers. This upcoming RT convention, I'm going to get to meet you, Kally, and that will add to my happy memories :)

  23. My husband and I met in high school, yet it wasn't always peaches and cream. Being young and naive I blindly followed him to college and thought he would profess his undying love for me, would forsake all college parties, friends, and basically strip him of all boyhood idiocy because he was to be mine forever. Possessive much? Yeah freshman year was a wake up call for me, even more so when we returned my sophomore year and he dumped me. My world, my entire world, came crashing down. I was so wrapped up in him, I never had branched out and experienced college life. What I learned from that experience, that time apart, because at the start of my junior year I did take him back. However, what I learned during our time apart was I could be an independent woman. By clinging to one person, I never had a chance to grow, to blossom into the strong, self -sufficient woman I am today. I was weakening not only my spouse, but myself as well. That old saying, if you love something set it free, well I really believe in it. I did accept my boyfriend at the time, now my spouse, back into my life. Not without a lot of hesitation on my part, for I had beenhurt, but 23 years later, I'm thinking it was the right decision. We have two fantastic daughters and our marriage takes work. But we know it takes work and we look forward to the make up times.

  40. I was always the shy girl in HS. I waited around for the boys to ask me out. That hardly ever worked out for me though.
Later on while out in the working world-I used to pick up my best friend from work everyday. She didn't drive, & I worked right down the street from her. As I would sit in my truck waiting for her to get out, I would watch this really cute guy walk across the parking lot to the mail box & back again. Everyday at exactly the same time, he would walk out the door. I made sure I was there watching. For weeks I would watch him, finally I grew enough nerve to speak to him (or so I thought)when I tried to give a little shout for his attention I actually squeaked! So the next day I tried again only this time instead of shouting to him, I whistled at him. It worked, it got his attention & I have had his attention now for almost 23 years! Married for almost17 with 4 wonderful children

  44. Thank you Kally for doing this contest. I met my husband when I was 17. I worked at a Howard Johnson's as a waitress, and on Halloween we all decided to dress up. My mom being the seamstress that she is made me a Raggity Ann costume. I looked complete in my pant-a-loons, red pigtails(ah yes I remember my natural color) big red rosy cheeks, and red and white striped knee socks. Well after work my friend said her brother was having a Halloween party, and we all were going after work. So I get to their place, knock on the door and the most beautiful man ever laid eyes on opened the door, smiled at me and said "Great costume!"Then all I heard was blah blah blah, cause all I knew was that I was staring at this great looking guy, and I'm dressed as Raggity Ann, I felt so silly. I was not disappointed though, he was attracted to me as well, and by the time the party was over, he gave me a ride home, and I have him my number! 25 years later I still laugh when telling the story of how we met, and he still tells me I was the sexiest rag doll he ever met! That's my happy ending. Thanks

  47. My happy ending has to do with my family in general, not just one person in particular.

My happy ending would have been in the year 2009. In the beginning of the year, my brother was diagnosed with a type of infection that was immune to all types of antibiotics as well as having tumors growing in his ear that reached to his skull. Then my father was diagnosed with Epilepsy and a diabetic after suffering from a seizure and mini stroke in the McDonald's bathroom. If that wasn't enough, I found out that my cancer had decided to come back with a vengeance as well. During this whole battle that we were fighting, my mom was the one who stood beside us all during our doctor appointments, and made sure we were all taken care of. With all of those bad things that were going on with my family, we all still pulled together and we made it through everything together. That gave me a ton of hope and faith in people.
